Commercial and residential buildings The arcade is a modern commercial and residential building, with the ground floor retreating along the street and public pedestrian space reserved.
The arcades generally exist in South and Southeast Asian countries, as well as in Hainan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and other coastal areas of overseas Chinese in China.
The modern commercial and residential building arcade originated in Beniapukur, India, and was first built by the British. It is called "corridor house", and the local dialect is called eranda. Then, Raffles, Singapore's port opener, also used this kind of veranda structure in the design of Singapore City, which is called "the public corridor of shops", or "five foot", "five foot foundation". Later, it was introduced to South China and began to be called "arcade". In 1849, the first arcade was built in Sipailou Street in Haikou, which was built by Qiong businessmen returning from Southeast Asia.
