Hotel building It is a kind of building type with a long history. Whether it is a "post station" in the Shang Dynasty in China or an "inn" in the ancient Roman period in the West, it can be traced back to thousands of years ago. With the birth of the Grand Hotel in Paris in 1850, the hotel with modern significance entered the public life with its unique architectural form and spatial attributes. After a century and a half of long development, hotels have become an indispensable part of the contemporary consumer society.

As the carrier of hotel services, hotel architecture can be described as a crucial component. With the increasingly formalization of contemporary architecture and the burgeoning commercialization of urban space, modern people attach importance to autonomy and society emphasizes the consumption mode of humanistic experience, which aggravates the contradiction between urban public space and people's daily life, This kind of rational and perceptual tug of war is the key point that hotel buildings should consider while providing public space for the city and sensory experience for consumers.

Under the circumstance that modern capital operation regards urban space as a saleable commodity, which leads to the growing alienation between man and nature, creating a unique sense of experience has become the core of hotel architectural design. As the "city within the city" and "home outside the home" in modern society, hotel architecture should uphold respect for local culture and natural environment, and create a "sense of arrival" and "sense of belonging" for visitors.

The place is a space with clear attributes, which endows the "form" of the building with "content", and transforms the cold building materials into a material space with profound meaning. The architect's task is to create a meaningful place to help people integrate into the local life scene, so that the building can reflect the unique regional customs and cultural atmosphere in form, space or materials.

As Steven Holl said, "The site of a building is not only the material of its concept, but also the basis of material and metaphysics." Therefore, when designing hotel buildings, we should consider the history, landscape and other resources of the project site, deeply interpret the local culture, and magnify and strengthen the characteristics of the land itself through design, Let the building grow in the environment.

In the design and construction of the Four Seasons Hotel on the West Lake, we try to combine tradition with modernity, and fully consider how to meet the functional needs of modern hotels while giving people the spiritual feeling of Chinese traditional culture. From the perspective of overall layout, we try to integrate the architectural elements of Jiangnan Garden into the "picturesque" landscape of Xizi Lake, so as to extend a main landscape axis with rich layers and create a living scene of "people swimming in the painting". While fully respecting the original place, we can achieve a spiritual realization through the depiction of architectural means, which is called "cultural confidence".

 Hotel building

Space is the container of countless scenes. If it is put on the timeline of life, it will become the carrier of people's memory. If we use movie language as a metaphor, the design of hotel space is like a huge set. The nodes are integrated into path setting, space-time transformation, scene interaction and other elements with montage style narrative language, highlighting the sense of participation in life, so that people can experience multidimensional space-time experience in different scales.

In such a renovation project as Jiuli Yunsong Resort Hotel, we try to re integrate the entry sequence of the original building, integrate and reshape the use and line of sight relationship between the external space and the internal space. In this way, we create unique spatial sensory experience through design means, with a view to further shaping new cultural features and memories.

Regional culture is a cultural accumulation from ancient times to the present. Today, with the growing development of "multi culture", international expression is no longer a single pursuit of hotel design. More symbolic and symbolic cultural expression has become the aesthetic interest of hotel architectural style design.

For the ALILA Hotel in Wuzhen, we no longer use the traditional Chinese architectural form, but abstract the artistic conception and architectural fragments of Jiangnan villages into modern space processing and construction techniques. She is modern, but it also shows the delicate and implicit temperament of traditional architecture. The expression of regional culture is not simple symbol stacking, but through its profound understanding and interpretation, and then re interpretation of architectural language.

Detail description: multiple perception and spiritual belonging

In The Eye of Skin - Architecture and Sensation, Juhani Pallasmaa used phenomenological methods to analyze various feelings of people in architecture, emphasizing the importance of the body. Different from the popular "visual architecture", this research expansion of "existence consciousness perception" based on phenomenology is closer to the core concept of "people first" in contemporary architectural design.

As the carrier of supporting daily life experience in the travel process, many details and combination methods in hotel buildings directly affect people's perception. Sound, color, temperature, materials... echo various human perceptions, and constitute the overall continuous construction experience in the use process. Maybe it's just a faint light at the end of the corridor, or the sense of streamline when the doorknob touches the palm of the hand when pushing the door, or the beauty for people to rely on, all of which determine the overall temperament and taste of the place. These meticulous combination of everything is a more specific requirement for the creation of hotel space.

Starting from the Four Seasons Hotel on the West Lake, we have tried to go from large-scale architectural layout to meticulous details. The careful setting of these multiple perceptual feelings can also bring the users who are not architects the same comfort as flowing clouds. The tense mood will relax unconsciously, so as to obtain the "sense of belonging" of the soul.

History needs people's participation, and cultural expectations are more expressed and spread. In the natural environment that has been evolving and changing for thousands of years, tradition has been precipitated with the culture passed down from generation to generation, and modern times have swept in with the emerging things that are overwhelming. Hotel buildings with regional recognition and historical characteristics have become emotional sustenance for more and more people to seek a sense of belonging and realize spiritual materialization.

As a special art category, architecture often has a larger size, and its involvement and influence on the city and nature cannot be ignored. As a material space where people and nature, and society live in harmony, a good building should explore the cultural heritage, consider the connotation of space, highlight the level of detail, and then be carefully scrutinized and created with ingenuity.
