Hotel building It is a kind of building type with a long history. Whether it is a "post station" in the Shang Dynasty in China or an "inn" in the ancient Roman period in the West, it can be traced back to thousands of years ago. With the birth of the Grand Hotel in Paris in 1850, the hotel with modern significance entered the public life with its unique architectural form and spatial attributes. After a century and a half of long development, hotels have become an indispensable part of the contemporary consumer society.
As the carrier of hotel services, hotel architecture can be described as a crucial component. With the increasingly formalization of contemporary architecture and the burgeoning commercialization of urban space, modern people attach importance to autonomy and society emphasizes the consumption mode of humanistic experience, which aggravates the contradiction between urban public space and people's daily life, This kind of rational and perceptual tug of war is the key point that hotel buildings should consider while providing public space for the city and sensory experience for consumers.
Under the circumstance that modern capital operation regards urban space as a saleable commodity, which leads to the growing alienation between man and nature, creating a unique sense of experience has become the core of hotel architectural design. As the "city within the city" and "home outside the home" in modern society, hotel architecture should uphold respect for local culture and natural environment, and create a "sense of arrival" and "sense of belonging" for visitors.

Then, how to communicate with the natural environment through design means, express the local cultural characteristics, and create a way of life in harmony with nature?
Place building: overall regional expression and cultural reproduction
The place is a space with clear attributes, which endows the "form" of the building with "content", and transforms the cold building materials into a material space with profound meaning. The architect's task is to create a meaningful place to help people integrate into the local life scene, so that the building can reflect the unique regional customs and cultural atmosphere in form, space or materials.
As Steven Holl said, "The site of a building is not only the material of its concept, but also the basis of material and metaphysics." Therefore, when designing hotel buildings, we should consider the history, landscape and other resources of the project site, deeply interpret the local culture, and magnify and strengthen the characteristics of the land itself through design, Let the building grow in the environment.
In the design and construction of the Four Seasons Hotel on the West Lake, we try to combine tradition with modernity, and fully consider how to meet the functional needs of modern hotels while giving people the spiritual feeling of Chinese traditional culture. From the perspective of overall layout, we try to integrate the architectural elements of Jiangnan Garden into the "picturesque" landscape of Xizi Lake, so as to extend a main landscape axis with rich layers and create a living scene of "people swimming in the painting". While fully respecting the original place, we can achieve a spiritual realization through the depiction of architectural means, which is called "cultural confidence".
Space is the container of countless scenes. If it is put on the timeline of life, it will become the carrier of people's memory. If we use movie language as a metaphor, the design of hotel space is like a huge set. The nodes are integrated into path setting, space-time transformation, scene interaction and other elements with montage style narrative language, highlighting the sense of participation in life, so that people can experience multidimensional space-time experience in different scales.
In such a renovation project, we try to re integrate the entry sequence of the original building, integrate and reshape the use and line of sight relationship between the external space and the internal space. In this way, we create unique spatial sensory experience through design means, with a view to further shaping new cultural features and memories.
Regional culture is a cultural accumulation from ancient times to the present. Today, with the growing development of "multi culture", international expression is no longer a single pursuit of hotel design. More symbolic and symbolic cultural expression has become the aesthetic interest of hotel architectural style design.
